What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. http://xmonad.org/
2. http://xmonad.org/download.html
3. run darcs get commands
4. http://xmonad.org/intro.html
5. This only explains how to build sources from hackage.
6. Look in the README file of the darcs sources.
7. Same as #5, except it also says how to install from a tarbal from  
http://code.haskell.org

Also in the README is
"Building:

  Building is quite straightforward" ...

It then says how to install dependencies, then skips straight to running  
xmonad without actually saying how to build.

relatively frequently (on the order of a few hours).
